About Michelle


Michelle is a long-term resident of Scarborough Southwest and has made Scarborough Junction neighbourhood her home in the heart of our Ward for over 15 years. First elected to represent Scarborough Southwest as City Councillor in 2010 she has served on the most important City Council Committees including the Mayor’s Executive Committee, Chair of Scarborough Community Council, Vice Chair of the Economic Development Committee and Chair of the City’s Corporations Nominating Panel where she has been leading efforts to bring greater accountability for Board Directors, better qualified board members, and improved gender equity on City boards.  As a graduate of the Director’s Education Program she has considerable board experience and has served on the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Design Exchange and the Art Gallery of Ontario among other boards.


Michelle was named by the Mayor as the City’s first Chief Advocate for the Innovation Economy where she has been the City’s leading voice on innovation and technology.  She lead the City’s efforts to position Toronto as number one in jobs growth in North America ahead of New York and San Francisco combined.  Michelle has retained industrial lands in Scarborough Southwest and used her role to bring more high paying jobs to our community.  She created the City of Toronto’s first annual ‘Digital Literacy Day’ that brought together corporations, Toronto Public Library, Toronto Employment & Social Services, and public sector partners to provide on-the-job skills training, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and computer-related education, and ensures that “no one is left behind” in our new innovation economy.  Michelle was recognized for her work by Ryerson University as one of the City’s Top 30 Most Inspirational Women Making a Difference.


Michelle is dedicated to making our community a better place to live, work and play.  Living in the heart of Scarborough Southwest you can find Michelle early morning running in our local neighbourhoods and shopping local in our many shops along Kingston Road and Danforth Avenue.  Michelle is a parishioner of St. Maria Goretti Church and is a member of the fundraising committee of Providence Healthcare.
